SUMMARY:

Under general direction of the Deputy Court Administrator-Juvenile Division and in accordance with established statutes and policies, is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department. Employees in this title are expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develops goals and objectives in concert with the Deputy Court Administrator-Juvenile Division.

• Recommends policies, procedures and guidelines for process improvement, interpreting department policy and directives.

• Assures accountability in the performance of day-to-day work and production of volume.

• Interacts with various court, juvenile and police agencies; responding to inquiries from court staff, attorneys, defendants, law enforcement agencies and the public.

• Supervises reporting staff by identifying and assigning work, documenting work performance metrics and communicating work performance expectations, establishing professional development plans, providing training, implementing corrective actions plans, approving time, assuring appropriate staffing coverage, conducting periodic performance reviews, acknowledging accomplishments, providing assistance, and issuing discipline.

• Monitors and reports statistical data to the Deputy Court Administrator-Juvenile Division.

• Interprets department policy and directives.

• Assists in the development and overseeing execution of special projects as assigned.

• Responds to inquiries from court staff, attorneys, defendants, law enforcement agencies and the public.

• Oversees compliance of all rules, regulations and system integrity of the LEIN terminal.

• Provides and maintains training records of terminal operators and other practitioners for the Juvenile Division.

• Establishes and maintains a policy and procedures manual for LEIN transactions.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in a Criminal Justice, Social Work, Human services or related fields from an accredited college or university.

• Five (5) years of paid experience in a legal entity (State, County or Federal systems) as a probation or parole officer or similar job within a Juvenile and or Adult justice system.

• Two (2) years supervisory or lead worker experience.

• Employee must obtain MSP Terminal Agency Coordinator certification (at its first available offering).

• Experience using MS Office Suite and relevant software and systems.

• Experience commensurate with the job that demonstrates the required skills and competencies may be considered in lieu of education requirement(s).

• Broad knowledge of the community and its resources.

• Thorough knowledge of Court processes and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Normally a typical customer service office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise.

• Employees in this title may encounter individuals who may be under duress.

• Employees in this title may be required to perform duties in prisoner detention areas.

• Employee in this classification may be required to travel to other work locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time to perform job functions.

• Ability to detect, create and interpret documents.

• Operate a computer and other office machinery, items or equipment.

• Position self to move from one place to another.

• Communicate with clients, co-workers, and others.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess (at time of application) and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license, no fault insurance and access to a vehicle to use in the performance of assigned duties.

• Candidates considered for placement in this job title will be subject to a criminal and/or IV-D background investigation and subsequent fingerprinting every five (5) years.

• Employee must obtain MSP Terminal Agency Coordinator certification (at its first available offering).

ELIGIBILITY: This examination is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications. A person may not participate in an open competitive examination for the same title until ninety (90) days have passed since they last took the examination.
