Pay varies by position and is based on multiple factors including labor market data and, depending on position, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and/or certifications. Additionally, Sportech takes into account the internal equity of current employees when considering compensation. Sportech’s reasonable and good-faith estimate for the range of new hire compensation at the time of posting for this position is between $65,000 - $80,000 annually. Pay may also include variable compensation from time to time such as overtime for non-exempt positions, shift differential for specific shifts, and/or bonus targets (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
Job Summary
The position consists of design and manufacturing of tooling and fixturing using 3-axis and/or 5-axis machining centers for parts in the plastic thermoforming and assembly manufacturing industry. Additionally, the position designs tools consistent with industry standards in regards to part run-out, tool close offs, etc. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints, providing information regarding manufacturability, strong understanding of best machining practices, and understanding Sportech’s manufacturing and assembly processes.
Essential Job Functions
Assist product designers by providing information about potential manufacturing difficulties with new product designs.
Design manufacturing fixtures and aids, complete design reviews with cross functional teams, create manufacturing orders.
Maintain organized libraries of CAD files, CNC programs, DXFs and other related files.
Perform CNC and conventional machining applying most efficient speed and feeds, as well as most appropriate cutting tool selection.
Troubleshoot existing programs to gain improvements in quality and efficiency.
Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions, sketches or from the actual part to be copied or fitted.
A working knowledge of plastic properties.
Plan the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances and machine tool feeds and speeds; as well as most appropriate cutting tool selection.
Use precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during and after machining.
Use hand tools of the trade for modifications as required.
FDM printer programming, setup and operation. Requirements:
Associate of Science degree required with coursework in CAD-CAM required or equivalent work experience.
CAD-CAM Software experience (Mastercam and Solidworks preferred).
Extensive knowledge in tool fabrication and demonstrated trouble-shooting skills.
Detail oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Willingness to follow safety rules when operating machine tools and assembling heavy mold parts.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move mold parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use power tools.
Ability to consistently wear personal protective equipment.
Ability to work in production facility with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels.
Excellent manual dexterity, muscular control, and delicate touch to accomplish precision work without damage to valuable molds.
