DESCRIPTION:

The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the company's database systems, primarily in a Microsoft SQL Server environment. This role involves managing, monitoring, and maintaining database servers, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery, and providing support for database-related development and operational activities. The DBA will work closely with infrastructure, application development, and business teams to ensure optimal database performance and reliability to support business objectives.

Database Management & Maintenance: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database instances across development, testing, and production environments.

Performance Tuning & Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies, including query tuning, index management, and server configuration adjustments.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and maintain high availability solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering) and robust disaster recovery plans (e.g., backups, restores, log shipping). Regularly test these solutions.

Security Management: Implement and maintain database security policies and procedures, manage user access and permissions, and ensure compliance with data security best practices and regulatory requirements.

Troubleshooting & Support: Provide timely resolution to database-related issues, incidents, and service requests. Offer support to development teams for database design, T-SQL development, and stored procedure optimization.

Monitoring & Alerting: Develop and implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and address potential database issues.

Capacity Planning: Monitor database growth and resource utilization, performing capacity planning to ensure future needs are met.

Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of database environments, configurations, processes, and procedures.

Automation: Identify opportunities for automation of routine database tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL).

Collaboration: Work with application developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide database expertise.

REQUIREMENTS:

3+ years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator.

High School Diploma or GED.

Proven experience in managing and maintaining MS SQL Server (2016, 2019, 2022 preferred) in a Windows environment.

Strong understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.

Experience with SQL Server high availability (Always On Availability Groups, Clustering) and disaster recovery (backup/restore, log shipping) solutions.

Proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.

Solid knowledge of database security principles and best practices.

Experience with SQL Server monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Sentry, Redgate, native tools).

Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Must be available for on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Experience with cloud database services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server) preferred.

Certification in Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics) preferred.
