Job Description

InvestCloud is looking for a highly technical, detail-oriented Data Architect with deep experience in designing and delivering data platforms for the financial services industry—especially US Wealth Management. This is a hands-on architecture role, ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data modeling, cloud engineering, and domain-driven design.

The ideal candidate is fluent in transactional systems, understands the tradeoffs between file-based and tabular storage, and can shape performant, scalable data ecosystems that serve both operational and analytical needs.

What does a great Data Architect do?

We’re looking for a pragmatic and highly skilled Data Architect who knows how to turn messy, evolving business requirements into well-governed, well-modeled, and easily consumable data systems.

You’ll partner across engineering, product, and client teams to define models, patterns, and integration strategies that support everything from account-level operations to performance reporting and regulatory data needs. If you're energized by solving hard data problems in a complex industry, and you know what it means to ship durable solutions in the real world—this might be your role.

What You’ll Do

Architect with intent. Design and evolve scalable, high-performance data architectures across both transactional and analytical domains.

Model the business. Create logical and physical data models for key wealth domains—accounts, positions, transactions, advisors, portfolios—and validate those models against real-world usage.

Design for access. Define access patterns across APIs, event streams, queries, and batch pipelines—and ensure the right structure and storage format supports each one.

Own data structure choices. Make the right calls between file-based storage (e.g., Parquet, Delta Lake) and relational structures (e.g., Postgres, Snowflake), based on performance, usage, and governance needs.

Integrate the ecosystem. Lead data integration efforts across custodians, CRMs, portfolio management systems, and client reporting tools.

Drive clarity. Document models, data flows, and lineage clearly—supporting self-service access and reducing rework or misunderstanding.

Balance theory and pragmatism. Understand the principles of data architecture but deliver in an agile, delivery-focused environment with a bias for action.

Partner for impact. Work closely with engineers, DevOps, product owners, and client stakeholders to make data architecture a shared concern—not an ivory tower.

Basic Qualifications for Consideration

8+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data design roles.

Deep knowledge of transactional data design, normalization, and access strategies for OLTP and OLAP systems.

Proven ability to design across files vs. tables, batch vs. real-time ingestion, and microservice vs. warehouse access patterns.

Experience designing or supporting data platforms in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Hands-on experience with tools such as Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, Spark, or Delta Lake.

Strong SQL and data modeling skills; confident in data profiling, indexing, and performance tuning.

Familiarity with US Wealth Management data and workflows, including accounts, trades, reconciliations, performance, and custodial data feeds.

Excellent communication skills; able to translate architecture into understandable documentation and real-world decisions.

Perferred Skills/Experience

Experience with portfolio management or portfolio accounting systems (e.g., Orion, Tamarac, Black Diamond, APX).

Exposure to custodian integrations (e.g., Schwab, Fidelity, Pershing) and their data formats.

Experience supporting client reporting, tax lot accounting, or performance measurement systems.

Familiarity with modern data cataloging, governance, and metadata management tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, DataHub).

Understanding of data mesh principles or “data product” thinking.

What Sets You Apart

You know that great architecture isn’t just designed—it’s delivered, tested, and iterated on in the real world.

You believe in documented clarity over tribal knowledge, and you help others succeed by making good data architecture visible and usable.

You bring both technical excellence and domain fluency—you don't just know data structures, you know why they matter in Wealth.

You thrive in a collaborative, agile environment and are energized by making complex things simple.
