Description:

Completion of graduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; AND 6 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting (e.g., program evaluations, working with grants, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating, working collaboratively with coalitions or groups); AND Must be able to provide own transportation.

OR

Completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; AND 18 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting (e.g., program evaluations, working with grants, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating, working collaboratively with coalitions or groups); AND Must be able to provide own transportation.

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a Disease Intervention Specialist

Familiarity with grant program management and federal/state funding processes

Background in outbreak response

Additional Qualifications\:

Graduate or advanced degree in public health, health care or health administration

Experience working with local health departments or subgrantees

Experience with Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) prevention work

Experience working as a DIS (Disease Intervention Specialist)

Experience working with advanced database software (e.g., Access, Excel, ODRS)

Experience developing and presenting training and/or workshops

Experience in creating educational materials (brochures, pamphlets, posters, etc.)

Experience monitoring grant activities and program outcomes

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Disease Intervention Consultant to join our team. In this vital role, you'll support health and human service professionals across Ohio in their shared mission to stop the spread of HIV and syphilis, strengthen local prevention efforts, and protect the health of Ohioans.

What You'll Do:

As a Disease Intervention Consultant, you'll serve as a critical resource to local health departments, healthcare providers, and Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS). You’ll deliver high-impact technical assistance, help shape prevention strategies, and be the go-to expert in your assigned jurisdiction(s).

Whether you’re conducting site visits, reviewing case data, coaching local teams, or responding to an outbreak—you’ll be changing lives every day.

Train local agency staff on partner services, Ohio Disease Reporting System software, active surveillance, case management, and CDC standards.

Provide ongoing technical assistance to public/private health partners and DIS supervisors.

Assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of HIV/STI prevention strategies and program standards.

Conduct regular site visits and monitor compliance with grant objectives, data quality, and reporting requirements.

Evaluate community health indicators, review HIV/syphilis case reports, and report outcomes to program leadership.

Assist in creating and reviewing local/state grant proposals, program objectives, and evaluation tools.

Serve on the Statewide Syphilis Outbreak Response Team—supporting case investigation, partner services, and rapid response.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS\: Requires travel.

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 12, Step 1 of the union (SEIU/1199) Pay Range Schedule ($31.74/hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($33.35/hour) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
