Employment Type: W-2 (U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders only — no visa sponsorships)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP Principal Engineer to join our client’s rapidly evolving technology team within the utility sector. This role will initially be remote but will transition into a hybrid position (onsite Tuesday through Thursday in Columbus, OH) after conversion to full-time employment. You will lead the architecture and code review efforts across SAP and Salesforce platforms, serve as a technical coach to development teams, and guide the roadmap for major digital transformation initiatives — particularly in work and asset management. This is a strategic hire, with the long-term vision of transitioning from outsourced development to an insourced Agile DevOps team.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and code review across SAP ABAP and Salesforce APEX environments.
Guide architecture decisions related to SAP S/4HANA (Private Edition on Azure) and Salesforce Field Service, ensuring secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
Lead SAP configuration and integration across modules including PM, MM, FI/CO, and GRC, with specific emphasis on Work and Asset Management (WAM).
Support auditing and error detection in GRC, AIF, and other functional SAP areas.
Drive the development and implementation of Data Archiving and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
Act as a mentor and coach to technical developers, helping build internal expertise and elevate engineering standards.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure system integrity and compliance with internal security protocols.
Maintain inventory and configurations of IT assets, update product standards, and support documentation and artifact creation.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and support cross-functional DevOps teams in backlog grooming, sprint planning, and execution.
Define and lead strategic technology initiatives in coordination with TCS (technical staff), IT leadership, and enterprise architects.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of hands-on SAP experience, including large-scale implementation and support.
Fluent in ABAP coding and code review; strong ability to coach and develop other engineers.
Experience in SAP Fiori development and cloud-based SAP environments (S/4HANA on Azure).
Experience implementing or supporting Salesforce Field Service.
Deep technical and functional understanding of SAP modules PM, MM, FI/CO, and GRC.
Prior experience working in or supporting utility or energy sector clients is highly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Agile/DevOps environments with large-scale teams (100+), preferably in an insourcing transition.
Experience with cybersecurity requirements and cloud infrastructure (Azure IaaS).
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex solutions to both senior leadership and technical staff.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline — or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing SAP-Salesforce integrations.
Familiarity with SAP AIF auditing and GRC compliance processes.
Prior experience leading Data Archiving and Disaster Recovery planning.
Knowledge of NIST or other cybersecurity frameworks.
Soft Skills:
Analytical and strategic thinker with a proactive mindset.
Excellent coaching, mentorship, and leadership skills.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with high expectations.
