Job Overview

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is a dynamic and exciting place to work. This position offers an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students. The Outreach and Recruitment team in Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University. The admissions counselor reports to a Assistant/Senior Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work closely alongside a team of full-time staff members of approximately 30 and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55. Peak seasons are typically August through May given the cyclical nature of the work supported across Undergraduate Admissions. In office or hybrid work hours (3 days in office, 2 days work from home) can range from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening, and weekend hours at various times during the year given the role's direct work with outreach and recruitment programs occurring in varying international time zones.

Job Description

As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions team the Assistant Director will spend the greatest amount of time through the year performing the following job responsibilities; Develops and implements strategy, plans, and outreach to build high achieving student recruitment efforts for academically talented populations; works collaboratively with members of undergraduate admissions and other campus partners to utilize data to inform on implementation of outreach and recruitment efforts; participates in and provides oversight to the development, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing outreach and recruitment efforts in collaboration with internal and external partners including email communications, mailings, publications, and websites; manages the operational and territory budgets of designated areas; works collaboratively with campus partners and the visits and events team to develop strategy and plans for in-person and virtual campus visits for this population of prospective students, family members and school counselors. Leads the planning for key events such as Brightest Buckeye Day, Finalist Friday for Parents and Families as part of Stamps Eminence selection and other university initiatives for high achieving students. Hires, trains, supervises, coaches and mentors 2-3 student workers who can support the efforts of outreach and recruitment for high achieving students, motivates and encourages student employees to help set priorities, provide excellent customer services, and supports them in their own development.

Manages a recruitment territory (e.g., non-resident); Executes territory specific recruitment activities and events in collaboration with partner offices (Academic Success, Honors & Scholars, Academy Program, Academic Enrichment) using data, reports and analysis tools/technology. Travels to and coordinates school visits to in state and out of state high schools and program centers to represent Ohio State. Possible travel up to 8-10 weeks per year. Makes recruitment calls to prospective students in collaboration with partner offices. Analyzes prospective student data. Learns and uses the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA - Ohio State's specific data analysis tool), CRM (Salesforce), Student Information System, and other technologies to perform timely and accurate entries into databases regarding student application information, call/email activity and other processes, performs data validation and manages electronic workflows. Serves as the lead representative from Undergraduate Admissions for Metro School. Designs and leads college planning programs, create specialized visit opportunities and communications. Serves as office recruitment contact and representative for the OSU Academy and related programs; serves in place of Associate Director at designated meetings and programs.

Additional responsibilities the Assistant Director will be responsible for include but are not limited to; Counsels and corresponds with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding Ohio State admission policies, procedures, and general information over the phone, via email, and in person. Conducts large and small-group presentations. Learns and maintains knowledge of the areas within the office and university to best direct questions from staff and guests. Researches and resolves problems.

Reviews applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population, special program) and makes admissions recommendations through our holistic application review process that fluctuates through the year.

Assists with on and off campus recruitment events and projects. Participate as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees. Completes special assignments and other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours required.

Education/Experience

Required:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

- 4 years of relevant experience required

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate

- Program planning and project management required

- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

- Experience in using office desktop technology

- Early morning, evening and weekend hours required

Desired:

-4-8 years of relevant experience preferred

-1-2 years of OSU Undergraduate Admissions experience preferred

-Experience working with high achieving student populations

-Prior experience in undergraduate admissions recruitment or equivalent

-Event planning experience

-Knowledge of data interpretation

-Knowledge of CRM and other recruitment technology platforms

Additional Information:

Salary range for this position is $55,700 – $58,700.
