The Student Learning and Development Specialist for Buckeye Commons leads the development and delivery of student-centered programs and initiatives that promote holistic well-being, academic success, and preparation for life beyond graduation. Buckeye Commons is a new center within Student Life that serves as an open, inviting, and multi-purpose space for students to connect, build community, and access resources and programming that impact their ability to engage, learn, and thrive.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Specialist coordinates and executes workshops, educational offerings, and coaching sessions aimed at students’ overall learning, engagement, and personal and professional development. This role assists in implementing educational offerings aligned with Student Life’s student learning goals and applies student development theories to inform programming and outreach; operates with a high degree of independence, decision-making capabilities, judgment, consistency, and relationship building; collaborates with the leadership team to initiate, advise, execute and manage planning strategies and programs that align with the department and Student Life strategic initiatives; engages with leadership team and supervisor to carry out special projects as needed; works towards increasing student persistence, retention, and graduation rates; and collaborates with campus partners to promote their resources within Buckeye Commons and supports marketing and communication efforts in partnership with Student Life Marketing and Communications.
The Specialist may supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees. This role also participates in departmental and Student Life initiatives, including workgroups, committees, and events, which may occur during evenings and weekends. The Specialist upholds and furthers Student Life’s Culture Commitments.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in student success, student affairs, student development, or related areas.
Familiarity with student development and support theories.
Experience coordinating student programs or events.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Availability to support evening and weekend programming as needed.
Successful completion of a background check.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
4 - 8 years of experience in student success, student affairs, student development, or related areas.
Familiarity with student success platforms and technologies.
Experience working in cross-functional teams or with faculty.
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in student engagement and retention.
