Contract: 22 months initial with potential for conversion to full time employment
Pay: $70.00-$80.00/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
Overview:
We are seeking a Electrical Controls Engineer with deep expertise in electrical power metering and control systems to join a multidisciplinary automation and controls team. This role blends hands-on technical troubleshooting with strategic planning and proposal development to ensure the performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability of critical power metering infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Communications & System Integration
Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain communication systems related to electrical power meters.
Field Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Perform on-site diagnostics to identify and resolve issues with power metering equipment and control systems.
Obsolescence Mitigation & Proposal Development
Assess aging metering infrastructure and collaborate on proposals for upgrades, replacements, or redesigns.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
Conduct electrical and communication maintenance for metering systems to ensure continued accuracy and reliability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineers across instrumentation, electrical, controls, and software disciplines on integrated solutions.
Technical Focus Areas:
Electrical power metering systems
Metering control systems and automation
Industrial electrical communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3)
SCADA and control system integration
Obsolescence risk assessment and lifecycle planning
Work Environment:
Field Work: On-site troubleshooting and support at operational facilities
Office-Based: Proposal development, planning, and documentation
Hybrid Role: Balanced mix of hands-on technical work and strategic engineering initiatives
Qualifications:
Required Experience & Skills:
5+ years of experience in controls engineering, power metering, or electrical/automation systems
Strong understanding of industrial electrical communication systems
Proven ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex metering equipment
Experience with control system integration and automation infrastructure
Solid grasp of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE)Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Team Environment:
This role is part of a highly collaborative automation and controls team composed of professionals in controls, instrumentation, software, and electrical engineering. While team members currently share the title of “Controls Engineer,” the group is moving toward more specialized roles aligned with individual technical domains.
