JOB SUMMARY:
The Building and Grounds Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and
overall upkeep of agency buildings, vehicles, grounds, and equipment for an agency that
supports children, adolescents, and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
The technician ensures all work is performed in accordance with OSHA safety
regulations and the standards set forth by agency policy, licensing bodies, and accrediting
agencies. This role supports a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for
individuals served, staff, and visitors, while leading by example.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Adelbrook is a 24/7 operating Agency. Schedules are flexible, may include early
mornings, evenings, overnights, weekdays, weekends, holidays, mandated overtime,
mandated holds, and on call responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on facilities, grounds, furniture, and
mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair issues in areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry,
HVAC, and small engine repair, based on skillset.
• Maintain agency vehicles and mechanical equipment, including basic servicing
and upkeep.
• Maintain grounds through mowing, trimming, planting, watering, leaf and snow
removal, and other landscaping duties.
• Operate tools and equipment such as riding mowers, tractors, snow blowers, hand
tools, and power tools.
• Monitor facilities weekly for maintenance needs (e.g., lighting, locks, damage)
and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
• Ensure safe storage and usage of maintenance tools, chemicals, and equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in maintenance and storage areas.
• Drive agency vehicles to transport supplies or complete off-site tasks, as needed.
• Supervise part-time staff or program participants assigned to maintenance tasks.
• Demonstrate positive role modeling and professionalism when interacting with
residents and staff.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance issues when
assigned.
• Maintain active certification in agency-approved crisis intervention training,
including all required levels of Physical and Psychological Management Training
(PMT). Apply training techniques appropriately to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals served, staff, and others in the environment. Demonstrate
competency in de-escalation strategies, safe physical interventions, and adherence
to agency protocols.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
SKILLS:
• Skilled in the safe operation of maintenance tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
• Strong time management and organizational skills to manage multiple work
orders.
• Effective problem-solving and basic troubleshooting ability.
KNOWLEDGE:
• General knowledge of building systems and mechanical repairs (e.g., electrical,
plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
• OSHA safety regulations and proper use of maintenance tools and equipment.
• Landscaping, snow removal, and groundskeeping practices.
ABILITIES:
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, supervisors, and residents.
• Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations or behavioral
escalations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance, groundskeeping, or
related trade.
• Must be able to complete and maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR/First
Aid, PMT, DDS Medication Certification).
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required. May be required to
drive company vehicles.
• Ability to work flexible schedules and meet on-call responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Work is performed in a school, group home, or residential setting (indoor and
outdoor work
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, assist with physical interventions, and
support individuals with mobility needs.
• Ability to be on feet for extended periods and participate in recreational or
community-based activities with residents.
• Exposure to behaviors that may require de-escalation or intervention.
