Position Summary
The Senior Telecommunications Network Engineer provides advanced technical expertise, leadership, and oversight in the design, implementation, and management of complex telecommunications and LAN/WAN systems supporting our Department of Defense (DoD). This role is responsible for evaluating, designing, and managing secure, resilient, and high-performing networks that enable mission-critical voice, data, and video services. The Senior Engineer serves as both a technical authority and a mentor, ensuring compliance with agency and DoD standards while supporting enterprise-wide modernization and sustainment of telecommunications infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN, wireless, and VoIP architectures supporting enterprise operations.
Manage routing/switching, VLANs, IPv6 migration, DNS/DHCP, and network segmentation.
Integrate network solutions with Cisco ISE, Catalyst Center, Ansible, INFOBLOX, Splunk, Axonius, and NetScout tools.
Perform network performance analysis, optimization, and fault isolation.
Provide Tier III support for incident resolution, including 24/7/365 on-call rotation.
Ensure STIG, DISA, and DoD cybersecurity compliance.
Create and maintain network documentation, testing procedures, and implementation guides.
Mentor junior engineers and assist with certification readiness.
This opportunity is part of a proposal effort. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful contract award.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Active and current Secret federal security clearance
At least seven (7) years of network operations experience, with strong focus on telecommunications and LAN/WAN environments.
Higher-level education or military service may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
Experience leading teams in the design and management of enterprise telecommunications networks.
Experience supporting DoD or Federal telecommunications environments required.
DoD 8140 Baseline Certification: IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, SSCP).
At least one Computing Environment (CE) certification: CCSA, CCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, RHCSA, RHCE, WSHAA or AZ-104.
NOTE: In accordance with contract requirements, at least 30% of STNEs assigned to this program must hold a Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) certification. While the certification is not required fo all positions, candidates who currently hold a CWNA or are willing to obtain it prior to employment may receive preferences for selection to fulfill contractual staffing needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Electronics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Proven ability to lead teams across geographically dispersed facilities.
Expertise in carrier-based WAN services, wireless voice/data networks, and VoIP systems.
Strong knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, standards, and compliance requirements.
Ability to develop and deliver high-quality technical reports and presentations.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for resolving complex network issues.
Effective communication and leadership skills to interface senior government and contractor stakeholders.
