POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager or designated supervisor, the Learn to Swim Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of learn to swim instructors, activities, and facilities (if needed) during their scheduled shift. Provide excellent customer service, general oversight, supervision, and safety of members and guests. Will perform professional duties in ensuring the effective performance of swim lesson functions. This position will be responsible for leading and coaching their staff teams in the delivery of an outstanding member experience. This position's time will be split between supervising, planning, and implementing, guarding, instructing, as well as administrative work.

Please Note: This position would be for the Bob Crane Community Center aquatic programming at a part-time capacity.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversees the implementation of daily operations in aquatics programming and facilities, including staff, participants, and equipment.

Supervises swim instructor staff including scheduling based on program and activity need.

Performs all swim instructor duties and models a proactive approach to safety and risk management.

Serves as an instructor as needed

Assists in hiring, training, orienting, scheduling, and appraising swim instructors.

Support on call procedures and staff schedules

In cooperation with the Aquatics and Pool Manager, plans and supports in-service and trainings for Aquatics and learn to Swim staff. Ensures that swim instructors are fully competent in safety, curriculum and communication variables.

Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment needs arise and communicates needs to the Aquatics and Pool Manager.

Responds to customer and staff inquiries and directs concerns to appropriate authorities, if needed.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strictly enforces policies, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the facility and promptly warns users or existing safety hazards.

Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons.

Provides outstanding customer service.

Knowledgeable of all departmental policies, procedure, rules, regulations, etc.

Sets up and tears down equipment when necessary.

Prepares clear and concise written reports.

Attends staff meetings and trainings.

Must be able to assist, communicate, and work with people of all ages.

Performs other related duties as assigned/required.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS (Including requisite computer skills):

Minimum of 18 years of age.

Minimum of 3-year experience in related field; (Preferred)

Minimum of 1-year supervisory experience. (Preferred)

Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or ability to certify within 30 days)

Complete and maintain required trainings

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Red Cross lifeguard certification (Preferred)

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (Preferred)

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in a commercial aquatic environment (e.g., chlorine, muriatic acid, stabilizer, etc.); works in both indoor and outdoor pool environments; works around persons of all ages; exposed to possible injury from bodily fluids, hazardous waste; may have contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely lifts objects 20 lbs. or less; occasionally pushes objects 100 lbs. or less; occasionally pulls objects 100 lbs. or less
