Position Summary

The Ohio State University, Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Management & Fire Prevention serves our campus community by mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a broad range of emergencies/incidents that could impact our people, operations, and environment. Under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Management, this position will assist in supporting and coordinating a comprehensive all-hazards approach to safety and preparedness at all Ohio State campuses, properties and encompassing all Ohio State students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

While this position has some responsibility for all Ohio State campuses and associated property, it will be physically located on the Columbus campus. The Emergency Management Coordinator maintains strategic partnerships both internally and externally and will be expected to engage regularly with students, faculty, and staff, community, state, and federal partners to further enhance our mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

Main responsibilities include developing and facilitating exercises to a wide range of campus entities ranging from student groups to departments/schools/units, to university leadership. Facilitates, documents, and creates after-action reports for a variety of incidents and events. Develops and provides preparedness and safety training to a wide variety of our campus community. Develops and provides fire safety training for our campus community. Conducts fire drills in select campus buildings and maintain records for compliance with fire code. Assists with organizing, training, and providing oversight to our virtual Emergency Operations Center before, during, and after an incident/emergency.

Also serves the division’s GIS subject matter expert and creates, updates, and maintains a variety of maps including evacuation maps, and other operational maps for Public Safety

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. Ability to communicate with a diverse population with academic, research, and business settings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized and able to independently manage multiple projects at once and attention to detail

Ability to facilitate small and large group meetings and training sessions. Completion of NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 training required. Completion of ICS 300 and 400 desired. Advanced knowledge of the Incident Command System, National Incident Management System, Emergency Support Functions, Clery Act and other local, state and federal laws related to emergency management is required. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to work through complex issues required. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, administrators, students and outside agencies is required. GIS knowledge and experience desired. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings or blueprints desired. CPR and first aid certification desired

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this job profile is $64,900 - $84,850. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
