Role
The Operational Control Centre Outage Planning department. Responsible for arranging network access on SPEN’s HV, EHV & transmission networks.
This position is in the Transmission planning section of the Outage Planning Department, however successful candidates may also be required to work in the Distribution section at times.
To apply high technical standards to operational outage planning for the Transmission network.
Work with the System Operator to co-ordinate all system users and network outage requirements on SPEN’s transmission network ensuring the network remains safe and secure. Assist the Control Room with the delivery of all planned Transmission outages.
Successful candidates may train as a “Transmission Control Person” and support the control room as part of their role as a Transmission Planning Engineer. A part time shift pattern would apply, if applicable.
What you will be doing
Principle Accountabilities
Personally contribute to develop and establish an integrated distribution and
transmission planning team.
Deliver Co-ordinated weekly and day-ahead transmission and distribution plans to the Control Room for delivery of the outage programme.
Deliver co-ordinated long-term transmission outage plans for submission to the National Electricity System Operator (NESO).
Contribute to all aspects of customer service associated with the planning function, proactively and reactively, as appropriate, to meet all customer service KPI’s.
Contribute to the planning interface between all system users.
Application of the planning interface with NGESO to optimise system access for the business and the security of supplies to our end customers.
Personally contribute to the Planning team to ensure achievement of required level of performance from the planning team, individually and collectively.
Contribute as an effective member of the Operational Planning Team.
Undertake the duties of Control Person to assist the Control Room in the execution of the planned system outages.
What you will bring
The successful candidate will possess the following experience:
Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices
Committed to achieving the highest standards of customer service
Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
Working knowledge of the relevant regulatory documentation.
Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
Developed customer service skills.
Expert knowledge of the application of System Security Standards and the interplay with system capability elements
Broad operational experience preferred, e.g. spanning Distribution/Transmission and possibly generation.
Good understanding of the Company Safety Rules and supporting procedures for working on HV electrical equipment.
Expert user of PowerOn and PI systems
Working knowledge of power system analysis tools and techniques demonstrating a detailed understanding of load flow and contingency analysis
Minimum Criteria
Engineering qualification, degree level/HNC with significant relevant experience
Relevant similar experience in an operational role
Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite
