Job Description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Welder proficient in both Flux-Cored Arc Welding and GMAW/MIG. This role is crucial for our Production team and involves welding structural steel and various metal components to exact specifications. The ideal candidate must be adept at interpreting blueprints, maintaining high quality standards, and strictly adhering to all safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform welding operations primarily using FCAW (Flux Core) for heavy plate and structural work, and GMAW (MIG) for sheet metal and standard fabrication, as required by the job specifications.

Weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) on materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

Read and accurately interpret complex engineering blueprints, drawings, work orders, and welding symbols (AWS).

Perform pre-weld preparation tasks, including layout, measuring, positioning, aligning, fitting, clamping, and tack-welding parts and assemblies.

Prepare material surfaces by grinding, cutting, and cleaning to ensure proper weld quality.

Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment, selecting appropriate wire, gas, and machine settings for both MIG and Flux Core processes.

Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Conduct visual inspections of finished welds to ensure quality, proper penetration, and compliance with all code and project specifications.

Operate shop equipment such as grinders, band saws, overhead cranes, and forklifts (certification may be required).

Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the use of proper protective equipment (PPE).

Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment to ensure optimal working condition.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum of [2-3] years of professional welding experience with proven proficiency in both FCAW and GMAW (MIG).

Must be able to successfully pass a weld qualification test in both FCAW and GMAW processes (e.g., 3G or 4G) to [AWS D1.1, ASME, or company] standards.

Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.

Strong knowledge of welding parameters, machine setup, and electrode/wire selection for both processes.

Familiarity with various metal materials and their specific welding requirements.

Excellent attention to detail, precision, and a strong commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Solid mathematical and measurement skills.

Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

Preferred (Optional) Qualifications:

Current and valid welding certification(s) in FCAW and/or GMAW.

Experience with other welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GTAW).

Experience in [Specify industry, e.g., heavy industrial fabrication, structural construction, or manufacturing].

Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.

Manual dexterity and steady hand-eye coordination.

Comfortable working in a fabrication/shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and fumes.
