Job Title: Over-the-Road (OTR) Cargo Van Driver
Job Summary: We are seeking a reliable and self-motivated Over-the-Road (OTR) Cargo Van Driver to transport goods across long distances in a safe and timely manner. The OTR Cargo Van Driver will operate a cargo van, ensuring the secure delivery of freight to various destinations while adhering to all traffic regulations, safety standards, and company policies. This position requires extended periods on the road, excellent time management, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Driving and Delivery: Operate a cargo van to transport goods over long distances, following planned routes to meet delivery schedules.
Cargo Handling: Load, unload, and secure cargo to prevent damage during transit, ensuring proper handling of sensitive or high-value items.
Compliance: Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including hours-of-service rules, and maintain accurate electronic logs (ELD).
Vehicle Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the cargo van, reporting any maintenance issues promptly. Ensure the vehicle is clean and in good working condition.
Route Planning: Use GPS and navigation tools to plan efficient routes, adapting to traffic, weather, or road conditions as needed.
Customer Service: Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and receivers to provide updates on delivery status and resolve any issues.
Documentation: Complete required paperwork, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and fuel reports, with accuracy and attention to detail.
Safety: Follow all safety protocols, including proper load securement, defensive driving techniques, and compliance with weight restrictions.
Qualifications:
Licensing: Valid driver’s license (CDL not typically required for cargo vans, but a clean driving record is essential).
Experience: Previous experience as an OTR driver or in a similar delivery role is preferred but not mandatory.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move cargo (up to 50-75 lbs, depending on the job), sit for extended periods, and handle long-distance driving.
Skills: Strong time management, problem-solving, and communication skills. Familiarity with GPS navigation and ELD systems.
Availability: Willingness to spend extended periods on the road, often 1-3 weeks at a time, with flexibility for irregular hours.
Background: Must pass a background check, drug screening, and DOT physical (if applicable).
