Job Description:
The Mechanical Supervisor oversees all mechanical activities during offshore shutdowns, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely execution of maintenance, repairs, and installations. Key responsibilities include:
Shutdown Execution:
Supervise mechanical teams (technicians, contractors) in tasks like valve replacements, pump overhauls, piping repairs, and turbine maintenance.
Ensure work aligns with the shutdown schedule and critical path.
Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies (PTW, LOTO, confined space entry, etc.).
Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
Verify that mechanical work meets engineering standards (ASME, API, ANSI).
Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) and hydrostatic tests.
Liaise with engineers, planners, and other disciplines (e.g., electrical, instrumentation).
Report daily progress to the Shutdown Manager.
Resolve technical issues during execution (e.g., alignment problems, material defects).
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Certifications: OSHA/NEBOSH, COSS (Competent Offshore Safety Supervisor), or equivalent.
Experience: 8+ years in oil/gas, with 3+ years in offshore shutdowns/turnarounds.
Technical Skills:
Expertise in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors), static equipment (vessels, heat exchangers), and piping systems.
Familiarity with SAP/CMMS for work orders.
Market Wage in Qatar (2025):
Daily Rate: $400/day (varies by experience and employer).
Junior Supervisors: $300/day (e.g., for small contractors).
Senior Supervisors (with major operators like QP/Shell): $600/day.
Rotation & Work Conditions:
Standard Rotation: 42/42 (common in Qatar).
Work Hours: 12-hour shifts, 7 days/week during shutdown.
Demand: High due to Qatars North Field Expansion (NFE) projects and ongoing LNG maintenance.
