The Ohio State University College of Optometry is seeking a Claims Coordinator to join our Billing Office team. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation of patient accounts and sound judgement. Position serves as a liaison between clinic attending optometrists, patients, and 3rd party payers and as a resource for determining insurance coverage. Daily responsibilities comprise all aspects of patient billing and collection processing to include insurance claim submission, insurance follow up, payment posting, and account reconciliation. Claims Coordinator should be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as communicating with patients, insurance parties and internal staff will form a large part of position. Position will be required to utilize standard office equipment not limited to: computers, fax machines, copiers, credit card terminals and telephones, and be able to utilize the clinic’s practice management software Compulink. Position reports to the Manager of Patient Accounting and is expected to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal oversight.
Summarized Responsibilities Include:
Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies.
Ensure patient information is accurate and up to date.
Collect and review referrals and pre-authorizations
Monitor and record late payments
Follow up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies
Examine patient bills for accuracy and request any missing information
Investigate and appeal denied claims

Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
Location:
The College of Optometry Billing Office supports a hybrid work schedule, which combines on-site and remote work opportunities. This position is required to be fully on-site during the onboarding and training period.
