Manages incoming and outgoing patient referrals for main campus and satellite locations (including Upper Arlington and Pickerington), including tracking all incoming and outgoing referrals, determining patient scheduling needs, creation of patient accounts and documentation of the incoming referral, scheduling internal and external appointments, effectively communicating with patients, and receiving and sending exam records and/or referral letters to and from the referring doctor through CareLink,eFaxing, or other secure methods; record management, including completing quality review of the data prior to sending medical records to providers. Maintains effective communication between staff, interns, and attendings related to incoming and outgoing referrals. Completes the referral loop by managing external communications of incoming and outgoing referrals between all parties involved, including notifying providers, and confirming receipt of medical records sent and received. Updates documentation in electronic health system and handles all PHI in a secure and confidential manner in accordance with College of Optometry, state, and federal regulations governing medical records handling and release.
Communicates and coordinates activities with Patient Services, Medical Records, and clinic faculty to maintain effective, efficient, and reliable workflows that support timely and appropriate referrals. Answers and returns patient phone calls regarding all referral requests and appointments. Serves as back-up support to medical records department with maintaining electronic health records in accordance with the medical and business requirements of the College of Optometry. Facilitates timely release of PHI to authorized constituents; responds to inquiries from patients for records release, glasses and contact lens prescription requests, and pharmaceutical prescription requests. Perform other duties as required.

High School diploma or GED
1 year of relevant experience
Desired Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Registered Health Information Technology
2-4 years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Excellent oral and written communication skills
6 months of work or internship experience in medical setting and experience with medical records software or classroom equivalent.
Pay Range:
$16.65 - $21.77 Hourly
Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
