Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Nepal seeks to recruit a Technical Manager (TM) based in Janakpur, Nepal.

Position Summary: The Technical Manager (TM), Food Technology will be responsible for managing and coordinating technical activities in food technology, compliance with food safety and sanitary and phytosanitary standards (SPS), and enhancing cold chain systems, providing technical assistance to develop and grow the project and contribute to technical programming to position LWR's technical work.

The competencies required to be successful in this position also include theoretical and practical understanding of food technology approaches, and ability to manage activities across the project locations.

The position requires coordinating, contributing to, and supporting the technical implementation of focused activities by providing technical inputs into project workplans, budgets, guidelines, training curricula, implementation tools and reporting, and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) in compliance with the requirements and regulations of the award.

Duties include organizing and coordinating with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, sub-recipients, consultants, and headquarters or regional Technical Business Unit (TBU) staff.

Responsibilities: Technical Delivery Services, Quality and Impact (60%) Manage food technology activities and support implementation and monitoring of technical interventions in alignment with the project goal and objectives, and donor standards.

Strengthen market actors' food safety and SPS, cold chain systems, small-scale processing technologies and/or development of value-added products, working with key stakeholders in private sector, government and academia.

Manage, model, and coach colleagues, including sub-recipient staff, in best practices in food technology technical delivery and activities.

Test and pilot traceability systems for farm-to-fork fish products.

Coordinate experts (government / academia) training-of-trainers (ToT) technical assistance on food safety certification pathways, e.g.

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), SPS, among other tools for post-harvest handling, processing, and storage to MSMEs.

Participate in forums that enhance sector knowledge to incorporate into technical activities on the project.

Identify and make use of grant opportunities that offer a return on investment (ROI) for the grantee and the donor.

Work in partnership with project team and sub-recipients, LWR Nepal team, headquarters/regional TBU staff.

Track progress of program targets and deliverables, identifying issues/challenges that need to be addressed, and ensuring that technical reporting requirements are met in line with Project Management Manual as well as complementary tools, policies, and procedures.

Provide input into budgeting and forecasting exercises related to food technology activities spending within the fiscal year.

Coordination and Collaboration: (25%) Based on knowledge of the Program Business Unit (PBU) and project portfolio, provide inputs into interdepartmental efforts such as quarterly portfolio reviews, Program Implementation And Learning Exchanges (PILE) and program reviews.

Manage documentation of Corus' technical capacities based on project achievements in coordination with project team and partnership with Technical Business Unit (TBU) team.

Contribute to the wider work of the TBU through active participation in the achievement of the project deliverables, team meetings, working groups and the development and sharing of technical knowledge and resources.

Data Management, Documentation, and Reporting: (15%) Contribute to the quality data reported into the project reporting system, in collaboration with the MEL team.

Prepare high quality, timely technical content, including monthly and/or semi-annual performance reports, and other project documents under the guidance of the Chief of Party, with support from PBU, headquarters, and TBU, as applicable.

Apply knowledge of donor rules and regulations to monitor for technical and MEL compliance for various actions during project start up, implementation, and close out.

Ensure data integrity and completeness by maintaining project documentation in electronic databases.

Supervisory: This position has no direct reports.

Education Experience: Bachelor's with at least 5 years' experience in food technology, food science, post-harvest technology or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's desired.

Experience in training and extension with farmers, farmer groups, and private sector entities, preferred.

Experience working with colleagues in a multicultural, multi-linguistic environment.

Demonstrated experience managing terms and conditions as well as other international donors, desired.

Proven track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with public and private sector.

Experience working with US-based, international partners and or local (NGO/FBO/CBOs, universities and other technical institutions), desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong working knowledge of international donor funding mechanisms (including grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements), desired.

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of HACCP, GMP, SPS and food safety compliance.

Excellent communication and influencing skills to communicate effectively and credibly, both verbally and in writing in English and Nepali.

Proficiency in Office 365 applications including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.

Experience with Salesforce a plus.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to lead the coordination of/collaborate on program implementation across multiple teams (between departments, between HQ and country offices, etc.). Working Conditions, Travel and Environment LWR has an in-person work policy, with all employees reporting to the office Monday through Friday.

The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.

This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business purposes.

While performing the duties of this job in different locations, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.

If applicable, must have authorization to work in the country of assignment.
