Overview
This posting is for Nuclear Inspectors at Electric Boat's Quonset Point facility.This position follows an alternative workweek schedule, working four 10-hour shifts from Thursday through Sunday.
Nuclear Inspectors are responsible for verifying the structure, systems, and components built at Quonset Point that used to support the nuclear reactor of the submarine meet the requirements and standards set to ensure safe operation by our sailors serving to help protect our freedom. The candidate will be responsible for but not limited to performing the following functions: Nuclear inspectors perform non-destructive testing (NDT) eg, MT, PT, etc., of welds/materials as well as fabrication and installation verifications for nuclear submarines
Inspectors execute the NDT techniques, per their training and evaluate physical conditions of systems (piping, structural, electrical, etc.) to verify material is built to plan and standards
Review and understanding of drawing and specification requirements for nuclear systems is required

Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent OR 2 plus years of related technical experience
1+ years of experience including but not limited to construction, manufacturing, quality assurance, or repair work
Applicant must be able to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and understand basic layout functions
Applicants must possess strong PC skills to include proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
Personal integrity and a commitment to uphold the high standards of nuclear work
Must be available to work all shifts, weekends and extended hours as business needs dictate
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperature conditions as required
Must be able to successfully pass a Jaeger color vision eye examination
Must be able to obtain a non-destructive test (NDT) inspection certification decided by department need
Must be willing to learn unfamiliar skills (I.E. pipe, mechanical, electrical, shielding) based on departmental needs
Must be able to attain a key department qualification/certification within the first 3 months after starting as a Nuclear Inspector
Must be able to maintain certifications through periodic audits and testing
Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense based on department needs
Preferred:
Previous inspection and/or NDT experience is desired
Experience with EB certification and training electronic programs (Mainframe, Electronic Desktop, Cornerstone, etc.)
Previous inspection/quality assurance experience
Previous experience as a tradesperson or inspector in the piping, mechanical, or structural fields
Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
Previous Military/Navy related experience
