Job Title:Structural Immunology Faculty Search - Open Rank/Tenure-Track
Department:Medicine School Biomedical Sciences Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology
The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a tenure-track faculty to join the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology and the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology. Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor are preferred, but other ranks will be considered. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology and the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) at The Ohio State University invite applications for a tenure-track faculty to lead an independent research program focused structural biology and immuno-oncology with an emphasis on molecular mechanisms of immune regulation in cancer. The faculty would leverage OSU's cryo-EM, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and computational biology resources to study protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions in immune pathways. Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor are preferred, but other ranks will be considered. Academic rank of the successful candidate will be determined based on qualifications and experience, including demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, service, and leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member's tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology or an associated field with expertise in structural biology, immunology, and oncology; a strong record of high-impact publications and sustained extramural funding; and demonstrated success in interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring.
Department/Division Overview
The Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology is home to research and education focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of fundamentally important life processes. The department is host to a broad range of research, education and service programs spanning across the basic and translational sciences . The department's mission is to advance research and education in fundamental biochemical, pharmacological, and cellular processes that drive human health and disease. BCP offers access to world-class research facilities and fosters a highly collaborative environment for exploring molecular mechanisms and therapeutic interventions. Faculty members in BCP are leaders in applying structural, biochemical, and pharmacological approaches to solving complex biomedical challenges.
The PIIO is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the body's immune system to fight cancer at all levels . Led by founding director Zihai Li, MD, PhD, the PIIO builds upon a rich portfolio of active investigator-initiated IO clinical trials being conducted at the OSUCCC - James. PIIO faculty conduct research in Systems and Translational IO. The PIIO is supported by our Immune Monitoring and Discovery Platform (IMDP), which provides comprehensive cell-based and molecule-based immunoassay services to support basic, translational, and clinical IO studies. The PIIO's Immuno-Oncology Informatics Group (IOIG) provides data analytics for flow and mass cytometry, bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics and imaging, neoantigen discovery, and more.
Ohio State is also home to the Native MS Guided Structural Biology Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing structural biology research. The center provides researchers with access to specialized mass spectrometry technologies, enabling detailed analyses of protein complexes, their interactions, and dynamics in native-like states. This resource complements OSU's existing structural biology infrastructure, offering unique capabilities for studying molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets in cancer immunology and beyond.
How to Apply
To be considered, please submit your application through Workday. Application materials must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of research (up to 3 pages), a teaching statement, and a list of 3 references.
