Job responsibilities
Design and implement a curriculum: Plan and carry out daily lesson plans and activities that focus on developing social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills. These must align with the Mississippi Early Learning Standards.
Provide a safe environment: Establish and enforce rules of behavior to maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom. This includes providing constant supervision of all children.
Supervise and teach children: Work with children individually and in groups to teach basic concepts such as colors, shapes, letters, and numbers using play-based and hands-on methods.
Assess and monitor progress: Observe and evaluate each child's development and use assessments to measure their progress throughout the year.
Communicate with families: Regularly communicate with parents regarding their child's progress, developmental needs, and classroom activities through conferences, newsletters, and other reports.
Manage the classroom: Develop and maintain a consistent daily schedule and routine that includes a balance of physical activity and rest.
Collaborate with staff: Work collaboratively with assistant teachers, administrators, and other staff members to ensure positive outcomes for all children.
Participate in professional development: Stay current with best practices in early childhood education by completing annual training and continuing education.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Teachers must be licensed by the Mississippi Department of Education. This requires a bachelor's degree, passing the appropriate Praxis exams, completing an approved teacher preparation program, and student teaching.
