Description:

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning (including production control), procurement, storage, and distribution of materials required to support manufacturing operations. This leadership role ensures that raw materials and components are available in the right quantity, at the right time, to maintain continuous and efficient production.

Duties and responsibilities

Ensure timely availability of all required materials at the manufacturing site to support the on-schedule execution of production plans.

Lead plant production planning efforts to ensure each production line has a complete and feasible weekly schedule, minimizing the risk of downtime. Ensure compliance with planning processes and tools and regularly monitor planning KPIs and performance.

Collaborate with the Purchasing team to ensure the timely procurement of raw materials, components, and consumables.

Monitor inventory levels and manage reorder points to avoid material shortages or excess inventory.

Review and track supplier performance, including intercompany and externally sourced materials.

Follow up on material deliveries and resolve past due items by proactively engaging with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.

Coordinate cross-functionally with Production, Logistics, and Warehouse teams to ensure seamless material flow and availability.

Lead, coach, and develop a team of materials planners and inventory specialists.

Optimize the use of ERP/MRP systems for material tracking, planning, and reporting accuracy.

Maintain accurate records of material usage, stock levels, and associated costs to support inventory accuracy and financial reporting.

Ensure all material handling activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory compliance standards.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in materials management, inventory control, warehouse operations, or a related supply chain role (preferred).

Proficient in ERP/MRP systems such as Microsoft D365, SAP, or Oracle.

Solid understanding of inventory management principles, supply chain processes, and procurement strategies.

Familiar with material planning, demand forecasting, and warehouse operations best practices.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate meaningful performance reports.

High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments and with external partners.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Working conditions

Warehouse and production floor setting in a manufacturing facility.

Occasional weekend during month-end or year-end inventory.

Physical requirements

May require standing, walking, lifting

Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g. computer, calculator, printer, handheld scanners and tablets) for a minimum of 6 hours a day

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and remain on foot for extended periods throughout the shift.

Ability to move throughout the facility and office areas to access files, office equipment, production areas, and materials as needed.
