As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in delivering restorative and interventional comfort to patients facing respiratory challenges, whether acute or chronic.

Your responsibilities include the provision of various treatment modalities, monitoring effectiveness, and adjusting care plans as necessary. You will also collaborate as a key member of the Critical Care Team, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Thoroughly review physician orders to ensure therapeutic modalities are appropriate, reaching out for clarification when needed.

Conduct patient assessments before and after therapy sessions in accordance with established policies.

Administer a variety of respiratory care treatments and document patient responses to therapies accurately.

Evaluate patient responses and refer any unusual or adverse reactions to the appropriate medical staff.

Propose modifications to treatment plans based on patient assessments.

Engage in patient and family education regarding therapy goals, medication use, and effective breathing techniques.

Collect and document relevant patient data, updating information each shift according to departmental policies.

Expertly operate and troubleshoot all necessary respiratory equipment.

Step in during emergencies, utilizing resuscitative techniques as required.

Support patient transport across all care levels, including NICU through adult care.

Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives.

Perform EKGs and collect arterial blood samples for analysis.

Contribute to the assessment and education of patients enrolled in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

Ensure safe handling and administration of equipment in line with manufacturer specifications and safety protocols.

Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, and professional development.

Undertake other duties assigned to enhance departmental operations.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy with credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), with RRT certification expected within 18 months.

Experience: Entry-level practitioners welcome; successful skill attainment is expected during the orientation and probationary period.

Licensure: Connecticut State License is mandatory.

Special Skills: Cross-training in Cardiology, Pulmonary Lab, and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation is highly valued. Staff will receive training requirements including advanced certification in Cardiology and Pulmonary function testing within designated timelines.
