Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer (Level 2) to support and transition across multiple projects within our power generation and utility operations. This role involves field verification, control system configuration, cost estimating, and startup support. The successful candidate will collaborate with design engineers, plant staff, and vendors to ensure high-quality and reliable control system performance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support & Field Work
Conduct site walkdowns, cable checks, and wiring verification in the field.
Support project startup and commissioning activities.
Assist with transitioning between ongoing projects to ensure consistency and technical continuity.
Engineering & Design
Prepare layout and conceptual control system designs.
Develop and maintain IO lists.
Review and markup control narratives for accuracy and compliance.
Provide cost estimates across sub-disciplines for assigned projects.
System Configuration & Graphics
Configure and develop operator graphics in one or more platforms: Ovation, Foxboro, ABB, or PLC-based systems.
Support integration of controls and ensure system operability.
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors.
Provide feedback and recommendations to improve system design and operations.
Foster strong working relationships to support project execution and long-term operations. Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, or related Engineering discipline (required).
Experience:
5-7 years of experience in controls engineering with field support responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience with cable/wiring verification, control narratives, IO list development, and project estimating.
Technical Skills:
Strong electrical knowledge and controls background.
Hands-on configuration and graphic skills with Ovation, Foxboro, ABB, or PLC platforms.
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Preferred Attributes
Experience supporting startup and commissioning in power generation or industrial facilities.
Knowledge of project controls, scheduling, and estimating processes.
Ability to adapt to multiple projects and shifting priorities.
