Data Center Infrastructure Engineer

Location: New Albany, Ohio (100% Onsite)

Pay: $45-50/hr W2 ONLY - NO C2C

Duration: 12 Month Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a Data Center Engineer with hands-on experience in troubleshooting, physical infrastructure, and Layer 1 technologies. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, can respond rapidly to onsite risks, and enjoys collaborating with both internal teams and external vendors.

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our data center operations, supporting critical system installs, decommissions, and infrastructure changes, while ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Troubleshooting & Incident Response (40%)

Independently identify and resolve onsite risks and critical issues. Manage incidents, shift turnovers, vendor escorts, and media processing.

Data Center Operations (20%)

Partner with Product Owners, Service Owners, and SMEs to execute requirements related to installs, moves, power-downs, decommissions, and reconfigurations.

Infrastructure & Automation (20%)

Execute user stories involving Layer 1 infrastructure design, CI/CD automation, APIs, capacity planning, and inventory management.

System & Facility Knowledge (10%)

Apply knowledge of data center building blocks, cabling, security systems, and facility infrastructure. Assess impact of software/hardware changes on data center services.

Process Improvement & Team Engagement (10%)

Contribute to documentation, team ceremonies, demos, and knowledge sharing. Mentor new engineers and participate in technology community discussions.

Required Qualifications

1–3+ years’ experience deploying and maintaining complex data center environments (new builds, renovations, expansions)

Knowledge of copper/fiber cabling (short/long range), LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls, servers, storage, wireless, and DAS

Familiarity with EIA/TIA, IEEE, NEC, ISO standards for structured cabling and data centers

Strong documentation and communication skills (verbal & written)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, Telecommunications, or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

3–5+ years experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining data center infrastructure

Industry certifications (data center, networking, or related)

In-depth understanding of Layer 1 technologies (Cat 5e/6/6A, fiber optics, DACs, optical transceivers, deployment methods)

Experience with power and cooling infrastructure, rack standards, and verification/testing

Knowledge of APIs, system automation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines

Experience with ServiceNow and network monitoring tools (SNMP, CDP, ICMP, VLANs)

Technical Competencies

Layer 1 Technologies: Cabling standards, connectors, transceiver compatibility, deployment methods

Data Center Hardware: Network, compute, IoT, AV, rack layout, power & cooling

Data Center Software: Installations, upgrades, integrations, OS platforms

Security & Networking: Preventative hardening, administration, LAN/WAN/VLAN troubleshooting

System Automation: Programming frameworks, automation-first mindset

Operations: Process management, site infrastructure, facility maintenance, fire suppression, security

Technical Writing: Clear, concise documentation for procedures, standards, and architectures
