Teaching Assistant (qualifies for Recruiting Incentive

Description: Full time Teacher Assistant.

Performs a variety of classroom support and student supervision services as directed under the supervision of an assigned teacher.

Duties may include behavior/coping/social skills instruction and academic support when necessary.

This person will be working with students with special needs in an alternate education placement.

This position will be paid by the ESC-Council of Governments The positions are in special education classrooms located primarily in central Ohio school districts, including: South Western City School District Reynoldsburg City Schools Minimum Qualifications: * High school diploma.

* Meets all mandated health requirements.

* Documentation of a clear criminal record.

* Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

* Valid Ohio Department of Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.

* Self-directed and able to learn required skills for the position.

* Ability to physically manage students with disabilities.

* Congenial disposition and strong diplomacy skills.

* Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques is preferred Responsibilities and Essential Functions: * Follows teacher instructions.

* Works with small groups and/or individual students.

* Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.

* Promotes a favorable image of the service center.

* Helps students with remedial and/or enrichment activities.

* Reinforces instructional objectives introduced by the teacher.

* Maintains a positive learning environment.

* Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance.

Avoids being intrusive.

* Solves student concerns discreetly.
