Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
Assignment:
The Lieutenant reports to the DC on the day-to-day operations of their respective assigned areas of responsibility.
Any requests or problems encountered within those areas that cannot be handled by the Lieutenant will be forwarded to the DC for disposition.
The DC will forward those requests or problems that cannot be handled by the DC to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police for disposition. At no time will the Lieutenant bypass the chain of command and go directly to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police without the knowledge of the DC.
Responsibilities:
Direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of their respective assigned areas of responsibilities.
Monitor the day-to-day operations of respective assigned areas of responsibilities to ensure compliance with department/college policy and procedures.
Receive input for the development of the monthly work schedule, and forward those inputs to the DC.
Track and submit all required documents such as Time Sheets, Annual Leave, Sick Leave and Compensatory Time to the DC, as required.
Prepare, disseminate and monitor reports for accuracy and completeness.
Assist the Mississippi Incident-Based Reporting System (MIBRS) Officer in monitoring the campus crime statistics information for Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI).
The Lieutenant will report to the DC on the day-to-day operations of the 0700 to 1900, 1900 to 0700, and the 1500 to 2200-hour shifts.
Perform spot checks of all Delta State University assigned areas of responsibilities and observe operations. Note problems noticed/encountered at each location and correct those problems. If the problem noted is a life threatening, a potentially life-threatening situation, or has the potential for injury to person or damage to property the Lieutenant will take the necessary action to correct the problem immediately.
Monitor and ensure the completion and submission of the Campus Security Survey to the U.S. Department of Education yearly.
Monitor and ensure the completion and submission of Crime Statistics for the Crime on Campus report to MBI yearly.
Perform spot checks of all Delta State University assigned areas of responsibilities and observe operations.
Note problems noticed/encountered at each location and correct them. If the problem noted is a life threatening, a potentially life-threatening situation, or has the potential for injury to person or damage to property the Lieutenant will take the necessary action to correct the problem immediately and notify the DC of the actions taken.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Mississippi P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standard and Training) or certified through another state with the ability to transfer certification to MS within one year of appointment.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Three years' experience as a police officer.
Salary

Preferred Qualifications
Prior Supervision experience is preferred.
Sixty hours of College coursework, an Associate's Degree or an undergraduate degree in a related field is preferred.
Attended a state level Command College or other leadership development equivalent.
