What You'll Do: Ohio Department of Public Safety - Director's Office/Fiscal (Fiscal Section 3) Report in location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223 Work hours: 8:00 am - 5:00pm Coordinate & manage multiple work units &/or programs & supervise program managers &/or unit supervisors within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Fiscal Unit: * Plan & oversee a variety of fiscal & accounting functions; Prepare, process, &/or analyze accounting records, financial statements &/or other financial reports & data; * Review & coordinate resource availability; Provide recommendations to maximize utilization of funds; Monitor & analyze funds & appropriations to determine if budget activity is in line with projections & recommend corrective actions if necessary; * Oversee accounts payable & account receivable activities utilizing state-wide systems including the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System (OAKS), Ohio Buys & reporting databases such as Business Intelligence (BI) & agency specific systems & data bases; * Oversee & direct the financial aspect of federal &/or state grants &/or programs; Coordinate financial activities with grant program areas & business units; * Consult with administrators on project funding, the availability of state funds & state appropriations, constraints on state budgetary & administrative situations; * Act as liaison between fiscal & various business units on fiscal & budgetary activities; Assist in the development, execution, evaluation & revision of the departmental operating budget pertaining to program areas of responsibility; * Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g., provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews); * Prepare, maintain & oversee maintenance, preparation & production of reports, records, studies & correspondence related to fiscal operations; * Participate in the design & development of internal accounting systems, data bases & related procedures & policies; * Advise program managers in the development & maintenance of responsive accounting systems, management information systems & other record-keeping systems required for adequate state & federal audits; * Assist with & participate in state & federal audit actions; * Develop & coordinates communications activities; Prepare correspondence, gather information for & assist in the implementation & analysis of legislation; * Assist in preparation of documents for legislative committee hearings & Controlling Board requests; * Participate in budget hearings, Controlling Board meetings, fiscal conferences & other meetings related to fiscal controls & accounting for state & federal funds; * Performs other duties as needed for CFO, Assistant CFO & Section Chief.
