Position Title: Traffic Control Technician

Pay Rate: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour DOE

The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians by managing traffic flow around construction sites and other work zones. The Traffic Control Tech is responsible for setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control in work zones. Their duties include using traffic control devices to divert drivers and pedestrians, monitoring road repairs, and supervising teams as they install equipment. Responsibilities are to employ traffic control devices to divert pedestrians and drivers, monitor the repair of roads, and supervise teams as they install equipment. Oversee traffic flow and ensure safety at construction sites. This is a DOT-related position and will be subject to the FMCSA regulations. The primary duty of the Traffic Control Tech is to coordinate and inspect traffic control set-ups for conformance with approved traffic control plans, MUTCD guidelines and local entity requirements. American Traffic Safety Services Association ATSSA certification or CCA Colorado Contractors Association - TCT Traffic Control Technician. Must be willing to travel (Per Diem will be paid).
Roles and Responsibilities:
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Company and particularly the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Traffic Management: Direct and guide traffic flow around construction sites to minimize confusion and maximize safety. This includes setting up and taking down traffic control equipment such as cones, signs, and barricades.
Installation and Maintenance: Install and maintain traffic control devices, ensuring they are in good working order to prevent accidents and injuries.
Monitoring Conditions: Assess road conditions and determine if additional safety precautions are necessary, such as closing roads or diverting traffic.
Communication: Coordinate with construction teams and communicate effectively to ensure that traffic control measures are in place and effective.
Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols and procedures in accordance with health and safety protocols.
Place signs, barricades and traffic cones
Follow all safety precautions to protect motorists and construction workers
Load and unload equipment and materials
Move construction equipment
Perform vehicle checks to ensure compliance with DOT regulations
Place temporary construction signs in work areas.
Position arrow boards or variable message boards in work areas
Set up traffic cones and other traffic safety devices in work areas
Monitor the work zone throughout the shift to ensure items remain in their proper locations
Collect and load traffic control items at the beginning and end of shifts
Install, remove, and reset delineators, signs, posts, and supports
Make deliveries, pick-ups and job checks in a safe, efficient, and timely manner

Perform a needs assessment when speaking with customers to translate their requests into our related products
Maintain delivery/pickup tickets
Learn/Responsible for safe lifting, loading, unloading of equipment to and from trucks
Arrive to work site on time wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), e.g., hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, masks, and earplugs as required, and when applicable, a respirator
Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures
Direct traffic at construction sites to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorist
Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades
Communicate effectively with construction crews to coordinate traffic control efforts
Monitor traffic patterns and adjust control measures as needed
Report any incidents or issues to supervisors promptly
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing safety
Strong communication skills to interact with diverse groups of people
Understanding of basic electrical components related to traffic control systems
Adheres to and promotes the environmental, health and safety policies
Proficient in traffic control and using traffic control program

Success Factors:
Pass medical fit-for-duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical car
Ability to read maps and knowledge of local streets. Basic reading and writing ability to comply with road signs, complete paperwork, and knowledge of federal and state motor carrier safety regulation
Must be able to read plans and ensure traffic control plans are implemented and maintained
Good knowledge of state and local roadways and experience operating delivery vehicles of varying sizes
Requires technical thinking, and the ability to read standards and schematics
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships with team members inside and out of the organization
Knowledge of the traffic control/construction industry. Previous experience in traffic control or construction environment desired
Familiarity with construction inspection processes
Good decision making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail
Must be comfortable and effective working in an environment with changing demands, delays and responding to unexpected situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with all customers (internal/external)
Excellent interpersonal communications skills including a proven ability to listen and understand customers, as well as ability to work in a team environment
Willing to travel as needed. Work is performed outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions / varying temperature, e.g., exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, dry and / or windy conditions
Work includes prolonged and repeated lifting (including overhead) up to 35lbs., standing, walking, climbing, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and feeling, climb and balance, crouching and crawling
Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination
Able to stand for extended periods of time, 8 to 10 hrs. per day
Experience and Education:
High School Diploma or a related discipline, or the equivalent education and /or experience
American Traffic Safety Services Association ATSSA certification or CCA Colorado Contractors Association - TCT Traffic Control Technician
1+ year of traffic control experience and construction and/or utility experience
Knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to commercial vehicles
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment
Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
Willing to travel (Per Diem will be paid)
