TITLE: INTERVENTION SPECIALIST QUALIFICATIONS: * Valid Ohio certification/licensure * Bachelor's Degree in Education of Students with Disabilities * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Building Principal JOB GOAL: Provides students who have a variety of disabilities with effective instruction and learning opportunities.
Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student's Individual Education Plan.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Supports the learning of students with disabilities in alignment with state standards.
Uses courses of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
* Works cooperatively with regular education classroom teachers who have students with disabilities, interprets the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and helps differentiate instruction.
* Collaborates with regular education teachers to establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
* Provides instruction in the resource room or inclusionary classroom.
* Provides one-on-one or small group instruction based upon a variety of instructional techniques and strategies.
* Uses de-escalation techniques and intervenes in reducing disruptive behavior.
* Teaches socially appropriate behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
* Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the needs of the students with disabilities.
* Participates in the intervention and evaluation process.
* Assists students with disabilities in achieving educational and occupational goals.
* Makes data driven instructional decisions to improve student outcomes.
* Develops and maintains accurate and compliant special education records.
* Collects and reports data on student achievement.
* Evaluates progress of each student on current IEP goals and informs parents of results in writing at interim and progress report times.
* Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and selected professional growth activities.
* Maintains a professional demeanor when dealing with students, parents, and staff.
* All other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: * Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
* Excellent observation and communication skills * May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
* Assisting students with behavioral/management needs * Frequent evening and/or weekend work TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of negotiated contract.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
