What you’ll do at DBH:

· Operates dispatch equipment on assigned shift: promptly answers all in-coming calls, connects caller with correct extension; supplies authorized information (i.e., names of department heads, address of facility, names of other administrators) to callers;

· Pages employees & makes announcements as requested/authorized;

· Provides patients with telephone lines for authorized use (e.g., personal, legal) during authorized periods of time;

· Places calls &/or provides long distance/local phone lines for employees on hospital-related business;

· Supplies walk-in visitors during normal business hours with information &/or directs them to appropriate staff;

· Announces all emergency codes/drills (e.g., medical, psychiatric, danger, disaster, fire & alerts) as directed; notifies designated personnel of emergency codes according to established procedures;

· Serves as contact person with facility’s police officers after regular business hours; completes unit checks on an hourly basis after normal business hours; contacts “on call” staff upon direction of shift nursing supervisor &/or shift police officer; receives reports of telephone problems from staff & reports to supervisor;

· Completes required clerical duties such as maintaining various logs, types routine documents;

· Complies with & understands policies, procedures, rules & regulations of switchboard operation; attends scheduled training.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 5 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within COBH at 2200 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43223.

Formal education that includes reading, writing & speaking English.
