AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

Working as the lead technical subject matter expert for the Common Operating Environment (COE) team within the AIR6500 program, you will mentor and lead a growing team in an fast paced agile environment while working with evolving technologies.

Reporting directly to the team’s product owner, your key responsibilities will be the mentoring and developing the team while providing experienced oversight and guidance for the technical decisions made by the team and wider project within the DevSecOps and engineering tools domain.

Work with modern tech stacks including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and container orchestration tools

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing technical SME guidance to both the team and project in regards to key technologies such as Infrastructure-as-code, GitLab CI/CD, VMware Virtualisation and Containerisation/Orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Helping to shape and mentor the development of less experienced DevSecOps team members by establishing and providing relevant technical and domain knowledge.

Performing code reviews and establishing technical direction to the team while leading technical discussions with stakeholders across the program.

Deploying and maintaining metrics and reporting tools to support multiple program stakeholder requests.

Overseeing and promoting an Agile culture within the team.

Overseeing and support development, tailor and maintain key program plans, procedures and templates for managing COE related activities.

Identifying and supporting the management of constraints to tool deployment such as classification of environments and export control requirements.

Being responsible for the delivery of team backlog, tasking the team and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and document and present the results.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have:

Extensive DevSecOps experience, including CI/CD and security best practices

Strong Linux administration and hardening skills

Agile software development experience

Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform)

Experience with Software Factory tool suites (GitLab, Nexus, Fortify, Sonarqube)

Excellent verbal communication skills for engaging with customers and stakeholders

Proven leadership experience

Desirable: experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence), data-driven dashboards and alerting, and MBSE tools (IBM Jazz, NoMagic)
