Location: Darlington

Full time: Permanent (Night Shift)

Salary: £43,000 - £48,000

Are you ready to take your career to the next level? We’re looking for a dynamic and dedicated Transport Shift Manager to lead our logistics operations and ensure our transportation teams operate smoothly and efficiently.

Our Darlington DC will be ready to go live in Q4 and we are now looking for Transport Shift Managers to join our team and support the Transport Operations Manager, creating operational excellence within the DC.

Position Summary: The Transport Shift Manager will lead and oversee the daily operations of the transportation department during assigned shifts. This role is responsible for managing a team of drivers and logistics personnel to ensure efficient and safe transport of goods, while maintaining high standards of service and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a focus on problem-solving, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, manage and control labour usage to achieve budget productivity levels and financial spend taking into consideration forecasts/ actual volumes, holidays and any long-term absence.

Manage all processes within the Martin Brower employee lifecycle.

Establish clear & documented handovers from your shift. Clearly understand issues and achievements from your shift, with productivity/accuracy/issues documented.

To consistently deliver an accuracy level for all customers by managing the credit process.

Ensure that staff are trained and competent to carry out tasks assigned to them and manage under performance.

Ensure our drivers are ambassadors for the company and are suitably attired and presentable to both customers and the public.

Ensure all assessments / appraisals are carried out on all staff on a six-monthly basis.

Deputise for the Senior Transport Shift Manager or Transport Operations Manager when requested.

Evaluate actual journey duration versus plan and implement improvement.

Provide robust feedback to all Customer Service teams.

Evaluate current VOR position, and make adjustments if required. Communicate any potential issues to both Transport Operations Manager and Customer Service if impacting on store delivery times.

Ensure that there is an effective de-briefing process.

Uphold and demonstrate Marin Browers care values.

Ensure complete compliance with all transport legislation and the Working Time Directive legislation.

Monitor trailer temperature using the Verofresh system and respond to all alerts in a timely fashion.

Ownership, accuracy and timely completion of all operational data, which can be audited and verified.

Inspect the yard on a daily basis and complete a yard inspection once a week. Identify and deal with any issues found.

To work in a multi-temperature food storage environment.

Qualifications

Technical Competencies :

Experience of scheduling systems (Paragon)

AS400/ JD EDWARDS

Aware of all current and pending industry legislation and developments

CPC preferred but not essential

Good level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office
