At DigitalOcean, Data Center Engineers play a massive role in the success of our business. Our amazing Data Center team is responsible for maintaining and growing the physical infrastructure of the DigitalOcean cloud, past, present and future. They own everything related to the physical servers and networking gear that enables our company, and our customers to scale.
Day to day duties may include everything from replacing a faulty drive in one of our servers, to flying overseas to set up a brand new Data Center from scratch. In exchange for your expertise and enthusiastic interest in DigitalOcean, we can offer you a role on a fast growing, and collaborative team where you'll be given regular opportunities to hone your skills and learn new ones. This position requires you to be onsite at our data center.
This position is for the Richmond area and requires you to be onsite.
What You'll Be Doing:
Deploying and maintaining Data Center infrastructure
Racking, stacking and wiring servers, power distribution units, and switches
Installing servers, switches, routers, and storage hardware
Submitting RMA to equipment manufacturers and shipping and receiving gear to and from remote locations and vendors
Submitting and tracking remote work requests and managing server and component inventory
Diagnosing and repairing hardware and performing upgrades, integrations, rebuilds and other projects as needed
Debugging network, hardware, and Linux OS related issues
Inventory and asset management
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
Proficient understanding in data center power and cooling design and architecture to help ensure new data center spaces, cages and suites are designed as per operational standards.
Experience deploying and troubleshooting GPU Hardware
Strong understanding of operating systems (OS) such as Linux; proficient with bash scripting.
Strong understanding of infrastructure hardware deployment and troubleshooting skills in networking, hardware, and Linux OS related issues
Strong understanding in data center cabling plans and best practices
Able to evaluate and discuss data center events and/or incidents, leveraging data to drive improvements. While taking action and ensuring timely resolution and closure
A strong desire and aptitude for solving problems and performing deep technical dives to resolve issues quickly and efficiently
Ability to update, review and approve operational documentation and procedures
Experience developing and standardizing operational framework that drive improvement
Can assist with budgetary and planning requirements for future projects and initiatives
Ability to create and define key performance metrics to help drive efficiency
Ability to operate and navigate effectively through ambiguity
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
A valid driver’s license (must be comfortable with driving)
Ability to travel domestically and internationally (10% - 15% travel)
Ability to be on your feet all day
Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs
Ability to train and develop other junior engineers
Compensation Range:
$92,000 - $116,000

We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
