New Mexico LPN License Job Details

Licensed Practical Nurse responsible for basic nursing duties including execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, sick call, assisting physician in examinations and treatments, and performing technical/clinical procedures within license scope.

Apply nursing skills in care and treatment of inmates/residents.

Attend sick call with physician, prepare list of inmates/residents to be examined, prepare examining room and equipment.

Operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required.

Control medication, syringes, medical supplies, and inventory as per procedures.

Perform emergency procedures as needed.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work area.

Document and report activities according to policies including medical file documentation.

Assist supervisor in evaluating medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.

Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records.

Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.

Inspect medical unit for contraband items; securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.

Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; process reports timely.

Read and interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, legal and non-legal documents.

Respond to lawsuits, attend court hearings, conduct chart research, review status of inmates with serious health problems.

Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and public, using tact and good judgment.

Help evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for safe working environment.

Facilitate accreditation of medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.

Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take action in serious incidents and emergencies.

Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment.

Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries accurately; exercise judgment on disciplinary actions.

Work in confined areas, rotating shifts, and physically check security of doors, windows, and other areas.

Be aware of potential verbal abuse in hostile environment. Job Requirements
