Geotechnical Civil Engineer/Branch Office Supervisor, Dayton
Geotechnical Consultants Inc. (GCI) is a 46-year-old civil engineering company specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, field and construction services, special inspections, and steel testing throughout the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. We are seeking a full-time Civil Engineer to head our Dayton, Ohio office. Ideally, this person would hold a P.E. certification or have a clear path and commitment to obtaining it. Based out of our Dayton office, this individual will not only support and strengthen our existing team but also play a pivotal role in the growth and development of our Dayton office while promoting GCI’s core values, a positive culture, and high employee engagement.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of a branch office, including managing the office environment and leading a team of field representatives.
Consistent communication with GCI's main office, client representatives, general contractors, and others to obtain appropriate project objectives.
Provide technical support as needed through on-site inspections and testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
Perform technical review of field reports.
Prepare geotechnical and field proposals, assist in developing scopes of work for geotechnical and field projects, and coordinate the setting up of new projects.
Manage the full life cycle of geotechnical engineering projects.
Set goals for the Dayton team and help develop staff skills through training initiatives.
Assist with business development efforts through community involvement and client engagement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
3+ years of experience in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification, pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
Able to pass pre-employment screens including Federal Background Check and Drug Screen.
Valid driver’s license/vehicle insurance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills.
Able to provide proof of authorization to work in the in the United States on a full-time basis.
Ability to have a flexible schedule, including possible early AM site assignments.
Ability to routinely lift varying weights from 10-50 pounds.
Ability to travel up to 4 hours a day and walk/stand up to 8 hours a day.
Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
Desired Certifications (or ability to achieve):
· Concrete – ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1-2, NICET Level 1-3, ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector.
· Soils – NICET Level 1-3, ICC Soils Special Inspector.
· Asphalt – NICET Level 1-3, ODOT Level 1-2.
· Masonry – ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector.
