SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI) TUTOR Number of Openings: TBD Employee Classification: Non-Exempt Institution: Cleveland State Community College Department: Tutoring and Learning Center Campus Location: Cleveland, TN Salary Range: $12.00 hr/*hourly rate increased based on education JOB SUMMARY SI leaders are essentially study group leaders.
The group study sessions are commonly referred to as "SI sessions." This position requires the SI leader to have excellent communication and instructional skills to adapt his/her teaching style to meet the needs of a group of students.
The SI leader is regularly required to implement instructional activities in group tutoring sessions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Work in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding, at all levels * Use various teaching strategies, methods, and techniques to tutor * Log records of sessions * Attend a mandatory SI lead training at the beginning of semester * Monitor students and maintain a safe learning environment during program activities * Help students improve their studying skills * Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement * Contribute to the college-going culture through informal mentoring with students KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Attend two weekly lecture classes for which he/she is an SI leader (accounts for about 2 hours and 40 minutes each week) * Attend one lab each week (accounts for 1 hour and 10 minutes each week) * Plan for both of his/her SI study group sessions (accounts for 2 hours each week) * Leads two SI group study sessions per week (accounts for 2 hours each week) JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS * High School diploma or in-progress.
* Proficiency in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.
* Community college experience and knowledge of Banner software preferred.
* Have A's in the coursework (General Biology or Anatomy and Physiology I or Microbiology) that you are going to tutor in * Be available to work a minimum of 8 hours a week * Be able to communicate clearly and have excellent social skills * Be enrolled in a college or university, preferred * Be able to collaborate with teachers, and students JOB LOCATION The main campus of Cleveland State Community College or MHEC/Athens campus.
