Search Number PJ # 7331 Title Assistant Professor, Biology Category Academic Department Biological Sciences About The Position: Expected to begin Fall 2026, this tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in introductory biology (and associated lab), genetics (and associated lab), cell biology, communicating biology, and courses in the applicant's areas of expertise.

A typical expected teaching load is some combination of lecture and/or lab sections that totals three sections per semester; faculty rotate through different courses as departmental needs dictate.

The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

This position requires excellent teaching, institutional service, mentorship of undergraduate research, and high-quality research suitable for a small liberal arts institution.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D.

in Biology or a related field is required for appointment as Assistant Professor.

ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant's defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment.

A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following the award of the terminal degree.

An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum). * Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching at the college level.

This may be evidenced by a clearly stated teaching philosophy, engagement in pedagogical training and development opportunities, and/or strong teaching evaluations * Ability to teach lecture and/or lab courses in general biology, genetics, and cell biology * Ability to mentor undergraduates in research, leading to presentations and publications at a level suitable for a small liberal arts institution.

* Demonstrated commitment to institutional equity in teaching, research, advising, and/or service * Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators Preferred Qualifications: * Experience teaching lecture and/or lab courses in the areas of genetics, cell biology, bioinformatics, and/or forensic science * Record of successful mentorship of undergraduate student researchers, leading to student presentations and/or publications.
