4 Assistant Basketball Coach Positions Available for the 2025-26 season.
5/6, 7/8,JV, Varsity
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clearly and consistently articulates a shared commitment to the IB's mission and philosophy.
2. Demonstrate an awareness of the IB learner profile and commitment to international-mindedness.
3. Plan, organize, and direct a designated York Academy sports program.
4. Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
5. Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
6. Develop and coordinate a game schedule with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) or other sports clubs/entities, as necessary. Partner with school leadership to communicate and distribute schedules to students, staff and the community.
7. Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the sports program; inform Upper School leadership and participants of final selections. Maintain the integrity of the selection process.
8. Recruit, coordinate and manage coaches, as needed, at all defined student levels.
9. Develop and coordinate any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-post tryout informational parent meetings.
10. Attend informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season for all levels.
11. Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
12. Work directly with school health services and other entities in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
13. Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community.
14. Actively support student opportunities to develop, act and reflect on learning outcomes for service.
15. Regularly engage in reflection and demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning and growth.
16. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
Requirements
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, WORK RELATED EXPERIENCES:
1. Bachelor's Degree Preferred
2. Pennsylvania Teaching Certification Required, appropriate for level and/or subject area of assignment
3. Knowledge of athletics and PIAA rules and regulations
4. Demonstrated experience in coaching children from diverse backgrounds using culturally responsive pedagogy
5. Knowledge of instructional strategies recommended for International Baccalaureate schools
6. Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
1. Possesses strong oral and written communication skills in the language of instruction
2. Must possess computer skills
3. Ability to operate office equipment
4. Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to reach above and below the waist.
2. Ability to use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects.
3. Ability to life and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 50 pounds
