The individual must demonstrate excellent communication skills as well as possess extensive diagnostic experience with children throughout the age range.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS: * MA or MS with approval from the State of Michigan as a school psychologist.
* Previous school psychologist experience preferred.
* Valid Michigan driver's license.
* Reliable transportation.
* Experience and competency in the administration and interpretation of tests of intelligence, achievement, personality, and perceptual-motor skills for students ages birth through 26.
* Experience and knowledge of the academic and personality development of special education students ages birth through 26.
* Experience in the design and implementation of behavior management plans for home and school settings.
* Ability to communicate psychological findings in oral and written form to parents and staff in a sensitive, clear, and meaningful manner.
* Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff and parents in home and school settings.
* Knowledge of community resources and referral procedures appropriate for families of special education and early on students.
* Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility.
* Knowledge of the workings of a school environment and special education including an understanding of the requirements of IDEIA and Special Education Eligibility Rules from the State of Michigan.
* Ability to work cooperatively in student support team meetings, team evaluations, IEPs and IFSPs.
* Experience in the IEPT process as it relates to children birth to 26.
* Ability to complete and maintain required records, forms, and reports in a professional and timely manner.
* Ability to be flexible, to work independently, and to contribute as a member of a team.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to): * Evaluate children for eligibility for special education services using a variety of appropriate testing instruments.
* Consult with instructional and administrative staff as well as parents to communicate test results, program recommendations, and recommended teaching strategies.
* Serve as a liaison to buildings and districts to communicate referral status.
* Facilitate and/or consult with student support teams as requested.
* Work as a member of a diagnostic team; communicate regularly with team members to plan for students.
* Schedule REEDS, METS, and IEPs in a timely manner; chair IEPs including preparation of paperwork.
* Communicate and coordinate services with special education staff and local agencies.
* Provide parent and staff trainings on a variety of topics.
* Assist in conducting threat assessments and developing safety plans for students.
* Assist in conducting functional behavior assessments and developing behavior intervention plans for students.
* Support the district's SEL initiatives.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the special education director or supervisor.
