Department Information The mission of the Department of History & Political Science is to be an organization of faculty and staff who are committed to excellence and integrity and whose collective goal is service to others through positive contributions that enrich and impact our region in general and our students in particular.
We mentor students pursuing studies in history and political science and related fields, preparing students to meet the growing demand for research, analytical, and critical thinking skills in Central Georgia and beyond.
These skills are applicable in nearly every field of professional endeavor.
Our majors find careers in education, electronic and print media, politics, government service, non-profit organizations, and lobbying, among other areas.
The department actively supports research on the part of both faculty and students, as a means of promoting deeper understanding and open intellectual discourse.
Our faculty are engaged in outreach activities designed to increase historical and political awareness both within MGA and in the broader community.
We also support the general education mission of the university by teaching introductory courses in history and political science in the core curriculum.
Job Summary The Department of History and Political Science within the School of Arts & Letters at Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Political Science.
This position will support the BS in Political Science, the Core Curriculum, and other programs as needed.
Responsibilities This position involves teaching a 4/4 course load, scholarship, service and student advisement.
This position is based on the Macon campus.
Teaching responsibilities may include day and/or evening classes, online and/or hybrid courses, and video-conference classes.
Travel between campuses (Cochran, Dublin, Macon, and Warner Robins) may be required as needed.
Required Qualifications Required Educational Qualifications Terminal academic credential in Political Science and/or related field.
Other Required Qualifications Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver courses at the foundational and advanced undergraduate level in American Government, as well as International Relations, State and Local Government, and/or Public Policy.
Active involvement in scholarly and creative practice.
Interest in and commitment to contributing to the growth and evolution of Political Science programming.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications Ph.D.
in Political Science from an accredited college/university.
Preferred Experience Two years of teaching experience at the college or University level.
Experience with online and/or hybrid delivery of coursework.
Other Preferred Qualifications Evidence of innovative pedagogical practices.
