Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The mission of Metrocare Services is to serve our neighbors with developmental or mental health challenges by helping them find lives that are meaningful and satisfying. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, development disabilities, and co-occurring disorders. Metrocare programs focus on the issues that matter most in the lives of the children, families and adults we serve. The Recovery Support Peer Specialist is an individual in recovery who has been trained to effectively use their recovery story to help and support other individuals with their recovery. The Recovery Support Peer Specialist performs a range of tasks through individual and group sessions to assist consumers in their own recovery process as part of substance use services. They will serve as a role model and demonstrate competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills, serve as a consumer advocate, and will provide information and peer support in the community. The Recovery Support Peer Specialist will also provide essential expertise and consultation to other team members in promoting a recovery-oriented culture. The Recovery Support Specialist will facilitate and/or co-facilitate peer-to peer discussion groups as well as individual sessions with individuals in services using a person centered recovery model.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides support to clients using personal experience

Provides individual sessions to those in services

Facilitates peer led group discussions around various clinical areas related to recovery and sobriety

Engages and familiarizes clients to clinical treatment.

Documents services within twenty-four (24) hours of seeing consumer.

Participates in regular supervision, including monthly observational supervision.

Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide feedback on clients progress with treatment when appropriate

Leads family education groups.

Connects clients with community supports.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Services provided:

1) All peer specialist services must be recovery oriented, person-centered, relationship focused, and trauma informed.

2) Peer specialist services may include: a. recovery and wellness support, which includes providing information on and support with planning for recovery; b. mentoring, which includes serving as a role model and providing assistance in finding needed community resources and services; and c. advocacy, which includes providing support in stressful or urgent situations, and helping to ensure that the recipient's rights are respected.

Group facilitation experience

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

GED or high school equivalent.

5 years of active involvement in personal recovery without incident of relapse or crisis.

Within 6 months of hire, begin certification for the Recovery Support Peer Specialist and start the 250 hours required for certification.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Basic math skills required.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Ability to utilize Internet for resources.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.

Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Centers liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
