Teacher Assistant II - SPED Functional Academics Elem (Pool Posting) Job Status: OPEN Posting Date: 03/14/2025 Posting Number: 012731 Location: Special Services Position Title: Teacher Assistant II - SPED Functional Academics Elem (Pool Posting) Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Principal Primary Purpose: Help meet physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom.

Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs.

Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

Qualifications: Education/Certification: * High School diploma * Educational Aide certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: * Ability to work with children with disabilities * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions * Ability to communicate effectively * Knowledge of general office equipment Experience: * At least one (1) year of successful experience as a teacher assistant, substitute teacher or other comparable work experience preferred.

* Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration might find appropriate and acceptable Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Support * Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.

* Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

* Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

* Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

* Assists the teacher in classroom instructional activities.

* Assists in administration of teacher made tests.

* Checks, marks, and corrects student's work according to specific teacher instruction.

* Performs clerical duties as needed.

* Assists with supervision of students during field trips and other special activities, lunch, recess, restroom breaks, and bus related times.

* Works with special education students in the general education classroom as required by IEP's.

* Maintains confidentiality regarding students and their records at all times.

* Maintains emotional control and models effective coping skills, e.g.

calm, low voice, neutral facial expression, non-challenging and non-argumentative interactions with students, polite precise requests and quiet requests to teacher for assistance if problems are noted.

Attends training as required.

* Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign.

Student Management * Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs including transferring to and from wheelchairs; lifting; positioning; or assisting students with personal care such as feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.

* Help manage behavior of students.

This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed.

* Assists teacher with implementation of behavior management systems.

* Assists students in need of special attention including health, hygiene and feeding as appropriate.

* Recognize differences in each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly.

* Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.

This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

* Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Customer Care Skills: * Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.

* Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly.

Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.

* Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.

* Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.

* Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all students and families.

* Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign Mental Demands/Physical Demands: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.

Salary: Pay Grade IS02, $16.46 - $19.51 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
