JOB SUMMARY The Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program is located at the University of Washington School of Dentistry (1959 NW Pacific Street, Seattle WA 98195) and has the following features: Nationally accredited: Accreditation by American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Faculty experts: Instructors have a combined 200+ years of experience working as hygienists and dentists Hands-on training: Students gain real-world clinical experience at the dental hygiene clinic at the University of Washington School of Dentistry Cohort learning: Students build a lasting network with a tight-knit peer group of trainees Scholarships: Program-specific funding available through the Foundation Comprehensive experience: UW School of Dentistry partnership ensures hard-to-get pediatric dental experience The work duties of the Dental Hygiene Instructors may include clinical and pre-clinical courses including teaching skills in local anesthesia, restorative dentistry and radiology.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate may advise students, assist with assessment of current instructional methods, develop programs and curricula, and participate in Shoreline governance, department, division and campus-related professional activities.
See complete course descriptions here.Required Education & Experience: * Associate degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution.
* Four (4) years patient care experience as a dental hygienist (post graduation). * Current license to practice as a dental hygienist in Washington State.
Knowledge of: * Experience with Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional clinical technologies, including Electronic Health Records and HIPAA.
Skill in: * Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness * Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Dental Hygiene * Adapting to a variety of teaching situations, including working effectively in both the classroom and other teaching environments and an ability/willingness to teach in more than one area of the program curriculum * Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online * Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College * Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently * Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds * Handling difficult of sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines * Incorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address different learning styles * Relating and inspiring students, ranging from reaching out to those students in need of help to challenging the best students Physical Work Environment: Work is usually performed in a clinic, laboratory or classroom space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
Instructors use appropriate PPE as well as computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Terms of Employment/Salary: This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment.
Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers.
Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
