Under general supervision, English as a Second Language Teacher, also known as the ELL Teacher, serves as an instructional specialist for multilingual students who are learning English as a second language.
The ELL teacher works in a program designed to provide direct English Language Development instruction in co-taught content classrooms, small groups and individual student settings.
In addition to this explicit ELL instruction, the ELL teacher provides in-class linguistic support and assists general education classroom teachers with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Language learners.
Assist in developing a sequential ELL curriculum with Director of ELL and school principals.
Design ELL instructional lessons.
Provide differentiation and accommodations for students to ensure they are mastering content and language skills Determine ELL Program eligibility Review annually ELL curriculum guidelines with Director of ELL Instruct LEP students individually or in groups in language activities that allows for full access to the core curriculum Recommend appropriate modifications to classroom teachers Write and distribute all ELL student assessment reports to classroom teachers and parents Maintain all records as required for state and federal reports Administers ACCESS, WIDA screener, and the W-APT Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Director ELL or Coordinator of the EL Department Equal Opportunity Employer Newburyport Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs, activities or employment practices based on race, color, national origin, age, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
Salary Based upon the contract between the Newburyport School Committee and the Newburyport Teachers Association
