This internship provides immersive lab-based experience in microbial fermentation and process optimization, offering the opportunity to contribute to real-world innovations in food, beverage, and feed ingredients while collaborating across scientific and production teams!
This position is designed and intended to be performed in Muscatine, Iowa
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the discovery and characterization of yeast and bacterial cell cultures
Develop and optimize fungal and bacterial fermentations at the lab and pilot scale
Potentially troubleshoot various production processes such as alcohol fermentation and process water recovery
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, production, and quality
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Is currently pursuing a degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field of study
Has foundational knowledge of fermentation science, enzymes, basic fungal and bacterial physiology, and molecular biology techniques
In progress or completed coursework in general microbiology laboratory techniques
CORE COMPETENCIES NEEDED
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively
Proficient in standard computer applications and digital tools
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in team environments and engage positively with diverse individuals
