Position: Girls Assistant Basketball Coach

Location: Garfield Heights High School

Position Type: Part Time, Stipend

Job Description:

Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking an energetic and committed Assistant Girls Basketball Coach to support the varsity program. The Assistant Coach will work in collaboration with the Head Coach to develop players' skills, foster a culture of teamwork and sportsmanship, and contribute to the competitive and personal success of student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, effective communication skills, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Support: Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and conducting practices, workouts, and game strategies.

Skill Development: Provide direct instruction to players to strengthen fundamentals, improve basketball IQ, and enhance overall performance.

Mentorship: Serve as a role model, instilling discipline, accountability, teamwork, and academic responsibility in student-athletes.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to OHSAA and Garfield Heights City Schools policies, including academic eligibility requirements.

Game Preparation: Assist with scouting, game planning, and making in-game adjustments to support team performance.

Supervision: Help supervise players at all practices, games, travel, and related team events, ensuring safety and appropriate conduct.

Collaboration: Work closely with the Head Coach, assistant coaches, athletic staff, and school administration to ensure program consistency.

Program Operations: Support scheduling, equipment management, and communication with players, parents, and stakeholders.

Community Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with families and the school community to encourage program support.

Other Duties: Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or school administration.

Qualifications:

Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education

Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks

Prior coaching or playing experience in basketball (high school or higher preferred)

Strong basketball knowledge and ability to teach fundamentals and team concepts

Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Commitment to fostering academic achievement, sportsmanship, and student-athlete well-being
