The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry is seeking an experienced individual to join the Department of Diagnostic & Preventive Sciences as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor, dependent on experience, in our Dental Hygiene Program as the Program Director. This position has responsibility for all academic, patient care, research, and administrative functions of the Dental Hygiene program consistent with applicable rules, regulations or guidelines of the College of Dentistry, the University of Oklahoma and the American Dental Association Council on Accreditation. This is a full time (12 month) position.This position reports to the Chair, Diagnostic and Preventive Sciences and supervises the Dental Hygiene faculty and staff.

The Program Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Development, implementation, and supervising a quality educational program for students of dental hygiene including preparation of course schedules for each semester, and evaluation of student performance.

Responsible for assigning and scheduling faculty to specific teaching responsibilities in a way that will maximize the quality of the education program.

Participate in research and encourage research by faculty and students.

Preside at periodic meetings of the departmental faculty; supervise departmental staff members; make recommendations on budgetary needs of the department; manage the departmental budget allocation; perform other duties necessary for effective and efficient operation of the department

Responsible for annual evaluation of faculty and staff and for making recommendations, in accordance with University policy and procedures, on hiring, promotion, tenure, termination, and sabbatical leave of absence.

Remain current in dental hygiene by attendance at local and national continuing education courses. Publish articles, prepare and deliver continuing education courses.

Responsible for oversight of the recruitment process and selection of students and enrollment of students each semester.

Guide and encourage the professional growth of the faculty.

Uphold expected standards of professionalism, quality, and ethics and in so doing serve as a role model for students.

Consult and coordinate with other departments as required.

Serve on standing and Ad hoc committees of the College of Dentistry and represent the College on committees of the Health Sciences Center or University when requested or elected to do so.

Participate in professional and community organizations

Support the College and Dental Hygiene mission and initiatives

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The desired candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Successful completion of an American Dental Association Council on Accreditation approved program in Dental Hygiene.

Possess knowledge of, and demonstrates proficiency in, current concepts in dental hygiene, dental hygiene education, clinical instruction, general dentistry concepts, and clinical practice.

Baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited institution; Advanced education to the master's degree level in dental hygiene or equivalent highly desired.

Strong clinical background with a minimum of three years of clinical dental hygiene practice

Eligibility for dental hygiene licensure in Oklahoma.

Experience in teaching and scholarly activity.

Experience in dental hygiene research.

Private practice experience desired.

Prior administrative or managerial experience highly preferred.
